Banksy Revolves: NFT World Tour
The celebrated masterpiece "Love is in the Air," also known as "Flower Thrower" or "LIITA," created by street art genius Banksy, is set to embark on an exciting journey through the world of NFTs. Particle, a cutting-edge digital art platform, envisions taking this fragmented work on a journey through a series of global museums, as if it were a universal melody destined to captivate the eyes of admirers across the globe.
According to Decrypt reports, this journey is scheduled to take off in the UK next month, carrying with it Banksy's disruptive spirit. Subsequently, "Love is in the Air" will immerse itself for six vibrant months in the rich artistic streets of Amsterdam and the charming corners of Barcelona. A journey that is undoubtedly a celebration of art in all its forms and boundaries.
At the epicenter of this artistic revolution is Particle, a beacon of innovation that sparkles since its inception in 2021. Among its founders are names that resonate in the art and technology world, such as Loic Gouzer, Christie's:link's former President for Contemporary and Post-War Art; Shingo Lavine and Adam Lavine, the visionaries behind Ethos.io; Philip Eytan, co-founder and President of Voyager; and Oscar Salazar, the founding CTO and Chief Architect of Uber.
The very essence of Particle, as they describe on their website, is rooted in the intriguing process of "fragmentation." This shrewd and ingenious process breaks down the artwork into unique fragments, much like the notes of a symphony, allowing co-owners to claim a singular segment of the piece.
A Dance of Fragments: NFTs Transform Art
In a December past, art merged with technology in a sublime way when Particle turned Banksy's iconic "Love is in the Air," valued at a staggering $12.9 million, into 10,000 NFTs. And it is the Particle Foundation, with its non-profit purpose, that watches over these digital fragments that now house the spirit of Banksy.
But that's not the end of the story, as the co-owners of these NFTs themselves possess the power to influence the fate of the artwork. Harold Eytan, Particle's CEO, shared with Decrypt, "We grant the owners the right to decide where the artwork will find its home in an exhibition."
As an invitation to a cosmic dance of creativity, Particle summons collectors to join in an embrace of co-ownership, allowing them not only the opportunity to decide which art fragments to treasure, but also the ideal moment to release them to the world again. At present, the platform hosts more than 2,500 such collectors, each contributing to the ever-evolving symphony of art ownership.
Art ownership facing a new paradigm
In Eytan's vision, the horizon of art ownership is being redefined as more and more eyes turn to digital art and NFTs, charting a new paradigm of ownership and governance in this exciting universe.
Throughout this transformative journey, Particle not only organizes events that bring collectors together in creative ecstasy, but also offers tangible glimpses into this digital reality. Some lucky collectors are treated to "personal physical components" that establish a unique link to the digital artwork. In one stunning example, Eytan shared that featured collectors would receive a print of master HR Giger, the artist behind the stunning visual effects in Ridley Scott's 'Alien' series, a treasure in itself.
In a bold reinterpretation, Particle modified its approach after the initial broadcast of 10,000 "Love is in the Air" fragments, as mentioned in its FAQ section. Now, these "particles" represent 100% of the legal ownership and economic rights to the corresponding artwork. Although they do not mitigate the artwork with a monetary stake, these particles are living symbols of authority and governance over the work, guided by the Particle Foundation.
A bridge connecting art galleries around the world.
Beyond their role as digital gatekeepers, the Foundation also acts as a bridge connecting galleries and institutions around the world. The Foundation has woven a web of exhibitions in various cities and established collaborations with illustrious institutions such as Phillips Auction House, Praz Delavallade and the Institute of Contemporary Art Miami.
The artistic horizon continues to expand with innovations inspired by the vision of people like Refik Anadol, who, in collaboration with the Museum of Modern Art and Feral Fire, brings to life an initiative that allows collectors to exchange their NFTs for physical and digital pieces of art, along with other rewards that emerge like shooting stars in the firmament of creativity.
In short, the journey of Banksy's immortal "Love is in the air," through the particles that take him into the world of NFTs, is a dance of fragments that fuses art and technology in a spectacle that unfolds across the globe, connecting hearts and minds in a symphony of ownership and creative expression. A journey where particles of passion come together to form an astonishing whole.
