Leading NFT marketplace SuperRare has taken a bold step by opening a physical exhibition of emerging art at 0x.17 gallery, located in New York City's vibrant South Street Seaport neighborhood.
The exhibition, which will open June 1, features "Artifacts," a fascinating solo show by talented digital artist and artificial intelligence, Claire Silver. Silver is recognized for her ability to merge digital and physical art, using abstract acrylics in combination with AI-generated portraits. One of her most notable artworks was recently donated to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA). The museum also received a donation from NFT collector Cozomo de Medici, whose valuable collection includes 22 symbolic, non-fungible artworks.
The "Artifacts" exhibition, announced on twitter last May 23rd, will showcase seven artworks that explore the influence of artificial intelligence on the future of art. These creations are realized through the use of a variety of media, including generative art, video, still images, music, poetry and 3D art. The exhibition will even feature an avatar equipped with an AI-powered voice, providing a unique and immersive art experience.
For SuperRare founder John Crain, exhibiting digital artwork in a physical gallery has long been a goal of his team. In May 2022, the NFT marketplace opened its first physical gallery in the heart of SoHo, New York, and the exhibition was available for three months. Crain is convinced that exhibiting digital art in the real world makes it more accessible to a wider audience, thus fostering in-person connections and conversations. According to him, art experiences must have an immersive narrative and human engagement to be truly meaningful.
SuperRare's foray into the physical realm of art demonstrates the growing impact and influence NFTs are having on the art industry. This exhibition challenges conventional boundaries and offers viewers a unique opportunity to experience digital art in a tangible way, creating a dialogue between the virtual world and the real world that transforms our perception of art and its scope.
