Air Europa has announced that it has become the world's first airline to issue airplane tickets in NFT (non-fungible token) format. This emerging technology offers a unique and exciting alternative to traditional airplane tickets, allowing passengers to own a digital token that represents their flight, instead of a paper or electronic ticket.
TravelX and Air Europa have joined forces to offer a unique flying experience in the travel industry: the world's first series of NFT flight tickets, known as "NFTickets". TravelX, a blockchain-based travel distribution startup, is building the first blockchain-based distribution protocol in the travel industry, suggesting a promising future for travelers in terms of security and efficiency.
With this collaboration, NFTicket owners will receive access to a special Air Europa flight to Miami Beach on November 29, 2022, as well as perks and pre-events leading up to the main art exhibition in Miami Beach in December. Additionally, each of the 10 NFTickets, in collaboration with acclaimed artists, will be auctioned off every 14 days through the travel.xyz auction platform, the first of which in a live auction on April 11 at 4:00 pm EST.
NFTickets function like traditional NFTs and are individually rare. When traded, transactions are securely recorded on the blockchain. When ready for use, the owner can present the NFT and a corresponding airplane ticket will be issued. This process ensures security and transparency in transactions.
"Innovation is in our DNA, we have been pioneers in the application of new technologies within our industry and it can't be any different with NFTs, which could be the next step in the travel industry," said Bernardo Botella, Global Sales Director of Air Europa. The company is proud to be the first airline to adopt blockchain technology for inventory management and distribution, allowing for an enhanced experience for travelers.
Facundo Diaz, co-founder of TravelX, said that TravelX and Air Europa's NFTickets will offer buyers "the opportunity to have a piece of travel industry history and participate in the first blockchain-backed flight." Furthermore, he added that TravelX will use "the best of traditional NFTs", to which they will add "real-world experience", providing an enhanced flight ticket that travelers can easily manage and trade from their blockchain wallet.
Overall, this initiative represents a step forward for the travel industry, demonstrating the potential of blockchain technology in terms of security, transparency, and efficiency. NFTickets offer a unique and innovative experience for travelers looking for more than just a simple airplane ticket. Are you ready to participate in the next auction?
